  • Halloween “Boo” Tradition and Pumpkin Bread

    IMG_0011

I love Fall and the fun traditions that we do as a family during this time of year. Especially for Halloween!

    IMG_0002

Have you heard of the tradition of giving a “Boo” in your neighborhood? Anonymously of course! Our family has been doing this for over twenty years now and my kids just love it! This is how it works.

First you need a “Boo” sign and poem to go along with it. The poem explains what the Boo is all about and instructs the receiver of your “Boo” and what they need to do to keep it going. You can go online and find different “Boo” signs and poems. Here is the link for the one you see HERE.

Along with the sign and poem, you will leave a treat or gift of some kind. My kids love this homemade Pumpkin Bread and so it has become tradition for us to give away loaves of them.

Now for my kids favorite part! Leave all the goods on the front door mat of the family you are “Boo-ing”,  ring the doorbell and run! You don’t want to get caught! Of course you want to be sure they are home first. It is a fun way to spread some fun and joy in your neighborhood!

By the way, after you are “Boo-ed” you need to make sure you hang the “Boo” sign up so your neighbors and friends know you have already been “Boo-ed” and they can “Boo” a different neighbor that hasn’t received the attention and fun gift yet.

It’s fun to see the “Boo” signs in the windows of your neighbors as you drive or walk by. It’s the perfect way to bring the spirit of friendship to your street!

If your neighborhood hasn’t started this fun tradition, you get the privilege of starting it and anonymously watching the fun and joy spread!

I am proud to say that our family brought this tradition to our street oh so many years ago and now someone on our street starts it before we do! I don’t think this fun tradition will ever die… and I certainly hope not!

  • Project Serve Together

    Image

    Hi Friends!

Many of you know Ani Taylor. Mother to three beautiful girls… Kate, Ruby and Lola. She has the difficult trial of raising only two of those three daughters as Ruby has returned to live back to her Heavenly Father. Instead of crawling into a dark hole like so many would, she looks for the best in life….people…moments… and how to live life with meaning and purpose. She is an amazing mother and person with so much to share.

Ani started Project Serve Together.  You can follow her at www.projectservetogether.blogspot.com , www.aniandmatttaylor.blogspot.com and on instagram at @servetogether. About this project, she says, “We have seen the power of service work in us and we want to continue to spread the love and joy we have felt. Each week we will be issuing a new service challenge on @servetogether and our hope is you will find increased happiness in your life as you serve others with us, each week.”

If there is one thing I know… it’s that doing service for others is one thing you can do to bring true happiness to your life. It doesn’t have to be anything big… even the small acts of service work miracles in the lives of others and your own.

Ani has asked that I share a service challenge with you this week. As you all know… I am a cook and love to cook and share that talent with others. I make my own bread for my family every week. I don’t think anyone tires of homemade bread… not even my family. Best smell and taste… don’t you agree? I always bake 4-6 loaves at a time so I have at least 2 spare loaves I deliver to two different people each week. It’s amazing what happiness a fresh, homemade loaf of bread brings to any individual of all ages! I love to see the look on their faces when I show up at their door with my freshly baked bread. I am known to show up at my local gym with loaves in hand to share. It’s the best start to my day! As I said…. it’s not a big thing, but it sure brings big smiles and looks of surprise when I gift my bread.

I am sharing with you all this week my very sought after recipe for my amazing homemade bread with the challenge to bake more loaves than you need and share with others. I think you will be hooked, as I am, in sharing these loaves every time you bake them. Click HERE for the recipe.

Will you please let us know how you as the giver and the person as the receiver felt when you did this challenge? Tag us in your instagram posts so we can see the joy in their faces too! @servetogether @jennyevansgatherings #projectservetogether

Let’s bring more joy to this world through love, service and thinking outside of ourselves. Thank you Ani for the example and inspiration you are!

  • Mom’s Pot Stickers

    IMG_9662

I taught how to make these delicious pot stickers in my last class. As a child, I remember sitting at our kitchen table and helping my mom fill and form a ton of these for our family dinners. Oh how I loved when we made these. They were seriously one of my favorite things to eat ever! I think we must have made well over 100 of these at a time. Now I know why she had any of us kids that would help her get in on the pot sticker action. Being Korean, we didn’t call them pot stickers. We called them mandu (pronounced mon-doo). My mom would deep fry the mandu and yes that made them that much more flavorful and decadent. I don’t like to deep fry our food, so I boil mine. You can also pan fry, then finish them off by steaming them. We dipped our mandu in plain soy sauce. For these pot stickers, I created the most delicious dipping sauce that you can drizzle over them.

Why am I posting about these delicious gems? Because I am sharing the recipe for my mom’s pot stickers with you! I add more veggies to them with thinly sliced cabbage, but other than that, they remind me of my moms. She also used ground beef, where as I use ground pork. You can use any ground meat you like. Get your family around your kitchen table and make these delicious morsels. Your kids will have fond memories of helping you make pot stickers for dinner! I love the memories food evokes. I have so many food related memories! Click HERE for the recipe.  The recipe will make about 96 pot stickers which sounds like a lot… but once your family tastes them… 96 won’t seem like a whole lot anymore! Make them and you will see!
